St. Joseph: Perpetual Adorer

"The Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph.
Behold our hope in these perilous times!"

(Peter Anastasius Pichenot, Bishop of Tarbes)

"In the Eucharistic Sacrifice the Church venerates the memory of Mary the ever Virgin Mother of God and the memory of Saint Joseph,

because he fed him whom the faithful must eat as the bread of eternal life." (Pope John Paul II)

Excerpts from the writings of St. Peter Julian Eymard

In profound adoration he [St. Joseph] united himself to the special grace of each one of the events in the life of Jesus. He adored our Lord in His hidden life and in His Passion and Death; he adored in advance the Eucharistic Christ in His tabernacles: there was nothing that our Lord
could hide from Saint Joseph. Aside from the Blessed Virgin, Saint Joseph was the first and most perfect adorer of our Lord.
How greatly the Word Incarnate was glorified by the adoration of Mary and Joseph as they atoned for the indifference and ingratitude of His creatures!
Saint Joseph joined with Mary in adoration and united himself to Christ, Whose heart surged with sentiments of adoration, love and praise for the Father and of charity for men.
Saint Joseph's adoration kept pace with every stage of our Lord's life, drawing upon the grace, the spirit, and the virtue of each mystery. In the Incarnation he adored the self-annihilation of the Son of God; at Bethlehem, the poverty; at Nazareth, the silence, the apparent weakness, the
obedience, and all the other virtues of Christ. He knew them well and he grasped clearly the reason why Christ practiced them—for the love and glory of His Heavenly Father.
Faith, humility, purity, and love—these were the keynotes of his adoration. No saint ever vibrated with a more ardent faith or bowed down in deeper humility; no angel ever glistened with brighter purity; and as for his love, neither saint nor angel ever has or ever will come within range of his burning charity which expressed itself so fully in devotedness.
Because his faith was so strong, Joseph's mind and heart bowed in perfect adoration. Imitate his faith as you kneel before the humble Christ annihilated in the Eucharist. Pierce the veil which covers this furnace of love and adore the hidden God. At the same time respect the veil of
love and make the immolation of your mind and heart your most beautiful homage of faith.
Among the graces which Jesus gave to His foster-father—and He flooded him with the graces attached to every one of His mysteries—is that special to an adorer of the Blessed Sacrament. That is the one we must ask of St. Joseph. Have confidence, strong confidence in him. Take him as the patron and the model of your life of adoration.
From close union with this holy adorer I shall learn to adore our Lord and to live in intimacy with Him. I shall then be the Joseph of the Eucharist as he was the Joseph of Nazareth.

St. Joseph of Mount Royal - Pray for us!

To Obtain A Special Favour

O Blessed Saint Joseph, tender-hearted father, faithful guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of God, I pray to you to join with me in praising God the Father through His divine Son who died on the cross and rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the holy Name of Jesus, pray with us that we may obtain from the eternal Father the favour we ask for...

We have been unfaithful to the unfailing love of God the Father; beg of Jesus mercy for us his brothers. Amid the splendours of God's loving presence, do not forget the sorrows of those who suffer, those who pray, those who weep. By your prayers and those of your most holy Spouse, our Blessed Lady, may the love of Jesus answer our call of confident hope. Amen.

For the Canonization of Blessed Brother Andre Bessette

Feast day - January 6

O Jesus, you wanted the devotion to your foster-father Saint Joseph to be made known through the efforts of Brother Andre, grant that the Church may glorify, at the earliest opportunity, this faithful friend of the poor, the sick and the afflicted.

Saint Joseph of Mount Royal, pray for us.

Blessed Brother Andre spent countless hours day and night adoring Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, in addition to his daily duties and caring for the sick. It was through his tremendous devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament that Blessed Brother Andre was inspired to build a magnificent Shrine in honor of St. Joseph at Mount Royal in Montreal, Canada. To this day countless souls are brought to our Lord at this Shrine and through the intercession of St. Joseph and Blessed Brother Andre, many miracles of healing take place there.

"St. Joseph worshiped Jesus as no saint before had done. From his deep, calm soul he poured out a very ocean of love—tenderest love, humblest love, love shrinking from being like the Father's love, yet also daring to be like it as Mary's had been like the conjoined loves of Father and of Spirit, as she was Mother and Spouse conjoined. No angel might love Jesus as Joseph loved Him, as Joseph was bound to love Him. No temporal love but Mary's could be more like an eternal love than the love of Joseph for the Child, because of its likeness to the love of the everlasting Father." (Fr. Faber)

The Memorare to Saint Joseph

Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never has it been known that anyone who asked for your help and sought your intercession was left unaided. Full of confidence in your power, I hasten to you, and beg your protection. Listen, O foster-father of the Redeemer, to my humble prayer, and in your goodness hear and answer me. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss his fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls - Pray for me.

To be said for nine consecutive mornings for anything you may desire. It has seldom been known to fail.

Prayer to St. Joseph

To you, Blessed Joseph, we go in our difficulties, and while asking for the help of your most holy Spouse, our Blessed Lady, we confidently invoke your patronage also. With the same love which united you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by the fatherly affection which you showed to the Child Jesus, we humbly ask you to remember that you are united to us by the glorious new life which Jesus shares with us through His Death and Resurrection and to help us in our need by your powerful intercession.

O most provident guardian of the Holy Family, protect us, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ; help us keep ourselves from falling into error and ways which are contrary to love for Jesus; united to us as you are in the communion of saints, assist us, O most powerful protector, in our struggle with the powers of darkness, and as once you rescued the Child Jesus from an attack against His life, so now defend the Mystical Body of Christ from those who try to divide and destroy Christ in His Holy People.

Shield each one of us with your unceasing patronage, that by imitating your example, and supported by your aid, we may be enabled to live a good life, die a holy death, and come to everlasting happiness in the presence of God. Amen.

"Saint Joseph served the Incarnate Word with perfect fidelity. Think of the lively faith which inspired his uninterrupted contemplation of the Divinity of the Christ Child; think of the love and faith with which he adored his God hidden in this little Child Whom he held in his arms and carried about always with the respect due to God. And when the Child had grown a little, notice how Joseph follows attentively everyone of His movements, His gestures, His acts, and His works." (St. Bernardine)

Thirty Days' Prayer to St. Joseph

IN HONOR OF THE 30 YEARS HE SPENT WITH JESUS AND MARY

For Any Special Intention

Ever blessed and glorious Joseph, kind and loving father, and helpful friend of all in sorrow! You are the good father and protector of orphans, the defender of the defenseless, the patron of those in need and sorrow. Look kindly on my request. My sins have drawn down on me the just displeasure of my God, and so I am surrounded with unhappiness. To you, loving guardian of the Family of Nazareth, do I go for help and protection.

Listen, then, I beg you, with fatherly concern, to my earnest prayers, and obtain for me the favors I ask.

I ask it by the infinite mercy of the eternal Son of God, which moved Him to take our nature and to be born into this world of sorrow.

I ask it by the weariness and suffering you endured when you found no shelter at the inn of Bethlehem for the holy Virgin, nor a house where the Son of God could be born. Then, being everywhere refused, you had to allow the Queen of Heaven to give birth to the world's Redeemer in a cave.

I ask it by that painful torture you felt at the prophecy of holy Simeon, which declared the Child Jesus and His holy Mother future victims of our sins and of their great love for us.

I ask it through your sorrow and pain of soul when the angel declared to you that the life of the Child Jesus was sought by His enemies. From their evil plan you had to flee with Him and His Blessed Mother to Egypt. I ask it by all the suffering, weariness, and labors of that long and dangerous journey.

I ask it by all your care to protect the Sacred Child and His Immaculate mother during your second journey, when you were ordered to return to your own country. I ask it by your peaceful life in Nazareth where you met with so many joys and sorrows.

I ask it by your great distress when the adorable Child was lost to you and His Mother for three days. I ask it by your joy at finding Him in the Temple, and by the comfort you found at Nazareth, while living in the company of the Child Jesus. I ask it by the wonderful submission He showed in His obedience to you.

I ask it by the perfect love and conformity you showed in accepting the Divine order to depart from this life, and from the company of Jesus and Mary. I ask it by the joy which filled your soul, when the redeemer of the world, triumphant over death and hell, entered into the possession of His kingdom and led you into it with special honors.

I ask it through Mary's glorious Assumption, and through that endless happiness you have with her in the presence of God.

O good father! I beg you, by all your sufferings, sorrows and joys, to hear me and obtain for me what I ask. (Here name your petitions or think of them).

Obtain for all those who have asked my prayers everything that is useful to them in the plan of God. Finally, my dear patron and father, be with me and all who are dear to me in our last moments, that we may eternally sing the praises of JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH.

"A blameless life, St. Joseph, may we lead, by your kind patronage from danger freed."

This prayer may be said during any 30 days of the year.

O God, in your loving providence, you chose Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most Holy Mother, give to us the favour of having him for our intercessor in heaven whom one earth we venerate as our Protector. You, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Dear guardian of Mary, fond guide of her child;
Life's ways are full weary, the desert is wild;
Bleak sands are all round us, no home can we see;
Sweet spouse of our Lady, we lean upon thee.
For thou to the pilgrim art father and guide,
And Jesus and Mary felt safe at thy side.
Ah, blessed Saint Joseph! how safe should I be,
Sweet spouse of our Lady, if thou wert with me!
O blessed Saint Joseph! how great was thy worth;
The one chosen shadow of God upon earth;
The father of Jesus--ah! then, wilt thou be,
Sweet spouse of our Lady, a father to me?

Consider the Glorious Titles of Saint Joseph

By John Henry Cardinal Newman

He was the true and unworthy Spouse of Mary
supplying in a visible manner the place of
Mary's Invisible Spouse, the Holy Spirit.
He was a virgin, and his virginity
was the faithful mirror of the virginity of Mary.
He was the Cherub, placed to guard the new
terrestrial Paradise from the intrusion of every foe.

He was the title of Father of the Son of God,
because he was the Spouse of Mary, ever virgin.
He was our Lord's father, because to him
were entrusted, and by him were faithfully
fulfilled, the duties of a father,
in protecting Him, giving Him as home,
sustaining and rearing Him,
and providing Him with a trade.

He is Holy Joseph, because according to the
opinion of a great number of doctors, he
as well as St. John the Baptist,
were sanctified even before he was born.
He is Holy Joseph, because his office,
of being spouse and protector of Mary,
specially demanded sanctity.

He is Holy Joseph, because no other saint
but he lived in such and so long intimacy
and familiarity with the source of all holiness,
Jesus, God incarnate, and Mary,
the holiest of creatures.

Blessed be the name of Joseph henceforth and forever. Amen.

..."In speaking of Our Savior's Mother, we had included her august and chaste spouse; for what God has united should never be separated. Near the Sacred Host and, as it were, in the halo of light that surrounds It, appears this dearly beloved father, this great patriarch of the New Alliance. It is in this role that we want you to consider him today, at the same time
keeping in mind the spirit and motto of our coat of arms—The Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph. Behold our hope in these perilous times!" (Peter Anastasius Pichenot, Bishop of Tarbes)

St. Joseph's Blessing

May the poverty of my sweet and suffering little Child be your riches; His sighs and His tears the consolation of your days; the love of His adorable Heart your earthly treasure, your all; and the clear vision of His adorable and glorified humanity be your eternal joy and recompense. Amen.

"Of old the Patriarch Joseph stored up food not only for himself but for all the people. (Gen. 42): Saint Joseph received the living bread come down from heaven and guarded it, both for himself and for the whole world." (St. Bernard)

"It seems that to other saints our Lord has given power to help us in only one kind of necessity; but this glorious saint, I know by my own experience, assists us in all kinds of necessities... I only request, for the love of God, that whoever will not believe me will test the truth of what I say, for he will see by experience how great a blessing it is to recommend oneself to this glorious Patriarch and to be devout to him... Whoever wants a master to instruct him how to pray, let him choose this glorious saint for his guide, and he will not lose his way."
(St. Teresa of Avila)

St. Joseph please pray for the spread of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration throughout the Universal Church.
